Rebate amount
You can receive a rebate of up to $3,000 on homes, townhouse, condominiums and co-operatives.
Eligibility
If the newly-built home is your primary residence and you meet one of the following conditions, you are eligible to apply for the rebate:
1. The newly built home is the first house you have owned and lived in within Canada in the past 5 years.
2. The newly built home will serve as a replacement for your previous home, which was involuntarily destroyed within the last 5 years.
Please note that the rebate does not apply to renovations or the conversion of a rental property into a condominium.
Application deadline
The deadline for applications varies depending on the type of new home construction:
1. If you own the land before construction starts, you have 24 months from the date of the occupancy permit.
2. For homes purchased with land or a condo unit, the deadline is 24 months from the date of sale mentioned in your deed transfer documents.
3. If you’ve purchased a manufactured (mobile) home installed on leased land, the deadline is 24 months from the date of the bill of sale.
4. Lastly, if you’ve bought a share in a cooperative housing corporation, the deadline is also 24 months from the date of the bill of sale.
